The humble British pub garden has topped the list of best places for a pint, according to new research from Thatchers Cider.
Thatchers, the family cider makers behind Thatchers Juicy Apple, has unveiled what Brits believe makes the perfect pint. The findings, announced during British Cider week, identify the perfect weather, time, company, food, location and occasion.
Almost half of Brits (41%) chose the classic pub garden as their perfect location when asked to select the best spots for a pint of cider. This beats the beach, festivals, sports events, mountain views and parks.
Eleanor Thatcher, fifth generation cider maker at Thatchers Cider, said: “It’s a testament to our amazing hospitality industry here in the UK that people would rather be in the pub garden enjoying their perfect pint than anywhere else in the world.
“It is the simple pleasures of getting together at your local with family or friends. You don’t need a special occasion to treat yourself to a glorious pint of refreshing cider, particularly on a sunny day.”
21-degree and sunny conditions was ranked as the best weather for a pint, with 17:25 the perfect time. With weather set to match the perfect pint conditions this week, pub gardens across the country will have the perfect setting for the perfect pint, perfectly timed for British Cider Week and the bank holiday weekend.
A surprising 1 in 20 admitted to drinking in the bath or shower, with 1 in 60 Brits saying it’s the perfect location for a pint, rising to 1 in 20 for Londoners, with men more than three times as likely to rank the shower as the perfect cider spot.
The nation and generations were split on the best companion for a pint. Gen Z (aged 18-27) and Millennials (28-43) said the best company is friends, while Gen X (44-59) and Boomers (60-78) chose to drink with a partner.
38% of Gen Z and 41% of Millennials ranked friends as the best company for a perfect pint, while only 17% of Gen Z said drinking with a partner is the best company for a perfect pint, rising to 23% for millennials.
30% of Gen X and Baby Boomers ranked drinking with a partner as the best company for a pint of cider – more than any other category.
The findings are released during British Cider Week, a national celebration of the appley pint.
