Used to visit this place fairly often around a.decase ago when I lived in the area, and would have rated it higher based upon how it was back then. Sadly, it's looking a little worn out now and could do with some investment. Upon ordering our food we warned of a 40-50 minute wait. After over an hour, and seeing people who came in after us getting their food before we did, we asked for an update and we're told "yours is next". After a further ten minutes it arrived. No apology for the delay. Food was okay, although one order was missing some items (Doritos with a chicken wrap). Rather than complaining, we are up and left. Won't be returning here until I hear of a change in ownership.
We were visiting friends and stopped by for lunch, both myself and my wife ordered the carvery, being the first time we had ate in the Horse and Jockey I wasn't to sure if it could live up to my expectations of a proper roast carvery, well it did and then some... Huge thank you for a tasty yet affordable afternoon carvery. Definitely recommend.
I think you can improve on the variety of food on offer for the carvery. And the Gravy was very lumpy it is an instant gravy not nice at all. Brussels sprouts were very nice. Roast potatoes looked very nice but they didn’t taste nice
I would rate this 4 star when it comes to the setting, the food and the staff, however I feel that there is underhanded profiteering going on here, this is the second sizzling restaurant we have been to recently and both times have been hit with extra charges and although not large it is the principle that is annoying. On this occasion I ordered a classic mixed grill, I was asked which sauce of three did I want with it, I assumed that this was part of the dish and made my choice, at no time was I told that this was a chargeable extra (£1.29), I probably wouldn't have bothered I wasn't that bothered about a sauce, on another recent occasion at a different sizzler when ordering scampi, chips and peas I was asked what peas I wanted, I went for mushy, once again extra charge without being informed (80p) garden peas no charge, if we go to another sizzler do I have to query the charge of every item on my plate.....
Good food and great value for money. There is a children's play area next door so it's perfect for the children to have a run around while the parents finish their drinks. Sometimes with cheaper meals they can be quite bland but not these; I had the mixed grill and it was spot on. We used the app for table service and it was nice and easy and meant we didn't have to queue either. Service was a bit lukewarm otherwise it would have rated higher. All in all, we got two adult meals, two children meals, drinks and two ice creams. With the £5 off voucher, it came to £37.50. Good value and somewhere we will return to.
