Corbières is something of a Manchester institution. It’s a basement bar in the city centre, but hidden away below what was once a bookshop in a side street off St Ann’s Street. The doorway is decorated with mosaic tiling, and there are often some empty casks to alert those who’ve not visited before. Originally a wine bar, it is named after a wine producing area of the French Pyrenees. Narrow winding stairs lead to a single and somewhat cavernous room with a bar at the far side with a famously retro jukebox. After some time in storage the lizards have returned. A small kitchen is squeezed into a space at the end of the bar and produces good value snacks such as soup and deli plates. Two cask ales are offered, along with some interesting foreign bottled beers and cocktails. The single room fills up quickly and attracts a young (and young at heart) clientele.
I have just discovered this place thank to social media and I wish I knew about it before! The staff is very friendly, the place is busy but it is easy to find a spot to have your drinks. When I heard you get a pizza with your drink, I wasn’t expecting much, but it actually was very good.
Went to find this hidden gem of a bar. It ws on a Saturday night, Manchester markets in full flow everywhere packed. Found the bar down an alley. The steps down are steep and narrow. The bar it's self is like a cave Nd was packed. Beer prices not to bad and quick service. Will have to go back when. It's a bit quieter.
This bar is a time warp. We came when it first opened back in about 1980 and it has not changed. Lots of artex giving it a "cave" feel. Cellar bar of St Anne's square. Albrecht ordered the one real ale, Wainwright. It was fine.
Great deal - for each alcoholic drink comes with a good size pizza with several options to choose from! Good music and atmosphere. Staff were friendly and polite, even if we waited half an hour for the pizza, it was worth it!
Worst kept secret in Manchester. True. Amazing little spot,a great place to have a relaxing drink and have a quick bite. I loved the happy hour special free pizza with your pint and the pizza tasted great.
